Great NAS for home or small businesses use!
Very easy to setup, great feature set for this price point. Excellent web interface for configuration! I really like the expandability, it has room for 4 hard drives, 2 NVMe SSDs and a PCIE interface card slot for a faster networking card or additional NVMe slots.

  2. Ordinary Customer

Very Customizable. Works with 64GB RAM
I just received this NAS, and I’m very impressed. I’ve always been put off of buying a dedicated NAS because they’ve seemed like locked down machines. I’m sure that’s true of Synology, but I couldn’t have been more wrong about QNAP. I’m very much a fan that I can install any OS I want, and that I’m not tied into using the QNAP QTS OS if I don’t want to. I fully intend to install something else, and from some testing that seems perfectly possible. I was able to install Proxmox Virtual Environment. QTS seems extremely feature rich from my brief time exploring it, but it just doesn’t integrate into my existing infrastructure. One important thing I want to mention: the QNAP TS-464 supports 64GB of RAM. The official Intel Ark page for the N5095, as well as QNAP’s specification page, list 16GB as the maximum RAM capacity, but that’s not the case. I purchased a Crucial 32GBx2 kit (CT2K32G4SFD832A) and it worked out of the box. Absolutely no issues whatsoever. I was expecting to there to at least be some software RAM restriction in QTS or something, but nope! It is detected properly and works as you would expect. I did a single pass with Memtest86 and it passed, no errors and the RAM was fully addressable.I only have a few complaints:1. Although the PCIe x4 physical slot is unrestricted and can support longer cards, it would appear you cannot install cards that are more than PCIe x8. The metal chassis has a hole where the PCIe slot comes out but the hole only seems to extends back for a PCIe x8 card to fit. I believe x16 cards would hit the metal chassis and not fully seat into the PCIe slot.2. The PCIe bay has no fan. This is unfortunate because I would imagine most people would be inclined to install networking cards, or external SAS cards. Typically, cards like those specify a minimum airflow requirement. Frankly, I would have been fine with a compromise to total card length supported in exchange for a small blower fan to ensure that any PCIe cards get at least some airflow. As it is, I would only feel comfortable installing cards that are very low power, or that have a built-in fan.3. The documentation does not specify the amount of power supplied by the PCIe slot. It likely only supplies 25W, but this being written out somewhere in the official documentation would be preferable.

    Tricky interface
Easy to install drives. The interface is a little tricky. If you are expecting something like the ease of use of Apple’s time machine, this is not it. But the software is feature rich.

First one was a dud, but this one works well.
Please note, this is a long review, but I think it may hold some interesting helpful information for others to review. First off, I had to return the first unit that was shipped to me because it was DOA. Also returned an expansion card as it unfortunately does not fit this unit (didn’t get that PCIe and NVme slots were different given the fact that the PCIe card had two Nvme slots and a fan. The replacement unit is so far is working fine (I will surely register for the 5-year warranty). Now the review of the unit itself. I understand why some reviewers called this a niche product (somewhere between home and business). For me it seems to be doing its job really nicely so far. Only 3 drive bays, but frankly that’s all I need. I had an ancient Seagate Blackarmor 4 bay unit with 4 lightly used Seagate Barracuda 7200 1TB drives at 3Gbps (in its day [2012] these were considered NAS quality drives). Unfortunately, after hours of fiddling and research, I finally determined that I could only use this old unit if I went back to SMB1 security levels (something that is not recommended) but can be done in Windows 10– if you know where to look to turn it off. How do I know it worked? I tried it and sure enough the Blackarmor was not only recognized but worked quite easily– but not safe if I ever decided to connect to the internet. Hence, I researched and ultimately decided on the TS-364 by QNAP.I researched carefully if I could use my old 1TB drives and the info for the TS-364 clearly stated both 6Gbps and 3Gbps supported drives– so I took a chance and it worked. To those drives I added 2x 2TB Nvme drives in both the available slots and bought a usb 3.2 hard drive enclosure for the remaining Barracuda drive to connect to one of the NAS’s USB 3.2 ports. So far other than a dead Ethernet cable that was shipped with the replacement unit, everything is now working really well, and I am quite happy with the overall setup and performance. The USB 3.2 ports, ethernet 2.5Gbps and HDMI 1.4b ports are not the perfect combination. I would have loved another ethernet port and HDMI 2.x port, but frankly– as noted above, I am a home user and at least for now, don’t even foresee connecting the unit through HDMI. So overall I would give it a solid 8.5/10 and am currently quite happy with the purchase. I really don’t think there is anything else out there that matches all the specs for the home/light business user (especially since I could reuse my drives.). There seems to be a lot of software aps for the QNAP device and the GUI (yes, I am showing my age) is really nice. Just make sure you register for the 5-year warranty. I may write QNAP and find out if they will replace the DOA ethernet cable that came with the second unit– but probably too much of a pain as you can get Cat 5,6,7,8 cables for pretty cheap. You made it! That’s the whole review. I hope it helps someone in their decision-making process. MD

    Easy set up
this NAS was easy to set up. The QNAP cloud worked and am able to get information remotly from cell phone app, PC , or laptop. It has many other features that I do not use, but works perfectly for file storage. My last QNAP dual hard drive NAP worked for 12 years, so decieded to continue with the QNAP product line. So far 3 months with no problems. (I was not able to swap the old hard disks, but QNAP did say the would be compatable. I may not have done it properly. It certainly was not a matter of putting them in and everything working).

Bought it on Prime day (20%). Installed my HDD 4gb from my TS-121 and add 8Gb memory. No data lost. everything perfect. Old volume format doesn’t support snapshot but for the moment, don’t need it. one of the reason I bought it, it’s for virtualization. I need a windows 10 machine because I use a Macbook. windows 10 is a bit slow but i probably not found the good setting. Next step second hard drive (12gb) and m.2 SSD for tier, caching and storage for virtual machine. Great buy. switch from an old Qnap is perfect! With my IronWolf 4gb on my 2.5gb ethernet network, I got an average of 230 Mb read/write speed

If you want the benefits of have a home computer network, this device is a must. QNAP makes it fairly easy to setup and use. QNAP also has an excellent technical support system if you run into any problems. This last purchase was a replacement of my first QNAP which I purchased back in 2016. Cannot live without it now.

I have been researching for weeks to make certain this one in fact has two memory slots in the machine. To my surprise, they used one piece of 8G memory in one of the slots. I confirmed with QNAP that only older model had memory soldered on.

Admittedly was a bit gunshy at first with a 3-bay NAS, but it’s been a few weeks and I don’t regret one bit. I am moving over from a very reliable Qnap TS-419P+ that has served me for over a decade. Key highlights:- Great size – quite compact, although it is somewhat deep.- At first was running a little bit hotter than I expected. It is on the same shelf as my previous unit, but based on the depth the back was only a couple inches away from the wall. I did a bit of re-jigging and pulled it out a bit more to give the fan more airflow, and it’s definitely running cooler.- Configured with 3x 12TB IronWolfs in RAID 5 config. I was a bit nervous about a more write penalty due to only 3 disks, but that has not been seen. I can max out and copy a full 2.5Gbps over the network and the disks more than keep up.- Running Emby Server for media services on it and it handles 4K transcoding like a breeze. The CPU is only pegging 3-4% when I do.All in all I am really pleased with this purchase and so far am not regretting going to 3 bay. Maybe down the road it could inhibit expansion, but I feel that’s a long way off. Strongly recommended!
